We had an amazing turnout of 16 members this morning and 6 children with them. Fortunately the weather was kind to us again so we were able to complete most of the planting.

  • Some of the plug plants were still very small so it was agreed to leave these for another month to establish themselves.
  • The wild primroses and the knapweed were planted in the various areas that have been designated as perennial sites.
  • Hawthorn, hazel and dog rose were planted in the sections of hedgerow alongside the main grassland area on the Sandy Lane Open Space LNR.
  • Ten well established buckthorn were planted on the two reserves in areas where the Council had identified.
  • Other tree saplings were planted in various areas.
  • The Council had very generously supplied the plug plants and buckthorn at no charge to the group. The other tree saplings had also been obtained free from “I dig trees”.
  • Litter picking was as usual completed on both reserves.

Next month we hope to plant the rest of the plug plants which include cowslips, field scabious, red campion and ox eye daisy.
