On a very overcast but dry morning we had 10 members attending. The January work session has always been the month when we have the big litter collection and Broxtowe Borough Council collect everything on the following day. Even though there was not a lot of the usual paper/bottles/plastic cartons etc we still finished with a good pile including sections of wire fencing and discarded Christmas trees.
Other jobs completed were:
- The steps leading from Thoresby Road were swept clean, and also the five steps we installed at the viewpoint a few years ago were being encroached on by gorse and this was cut back.
- The bridle path was again swept.
- Heather seed was collected from our established plants and will be sown in another area next month.
- Three of us spent the morning sawing up the branches that had been removed from the tree avenue and created groups of small piles suitable for insects. It will probably take another two sessions to complete the clearance here.
The Friends are always looking for extra pairs of hands to help out or to simply support their work, so...
