A cool but sunny morning saw 11 members turning out for this work session, accompanied by 5 cub scouts and 4 of their leaders.

The cubs concentrated on sweeping leaves from the steps that lead up from Thoresby Road, after which they cut back an area of bramble in the nearby woodland. Apparently they all enjoyed the morning as these were things they had never done before!

Meanwhile FBR members concentrated on raking and sweeping up the leaf litter that had collected on the Sandy Lane bridleway. The usual accumulation of mud was also removed from the low spot on the same path.

The main circular path on Alexandrina Plantation LNR was swept to remove the grass cuttings left over following Broxtowe Borough Council's annual mowing of all the grassland the previous week.

As always the whole of both reserves was cleared of litter.

Earlier in the week two members cleaned out all the existing bird boxes and installed an additional 10 boxes. The good news is that all the boxes had been used this year.

Broxtowe Borough Council have also cleared the two wildflower areas. These which will be rotovated in late February, so that The Friends can sow fresh seed at the end of March. BBC have also cleared the bracken from the area on Sandy Lane Open Space LNR which is to be restored to grass/heathland in 2014.

The Friends are always looking for extra pairs of hands to help out or to simply support their work, so...
