We are very pleased and proud to announce that our two reserves have again been awarded the Green Flag Community Award for 2014/2015 for a sixth successive year. The formal confirmation was received a few days ago and read:

On behalf of the Green Flag Award team and the Department for Communities and Local Government I am delighted to reveal that Alexandrina Plantation and Sandy Lane Open Space LNR’s have been judged to meet the standard required to receive the Green Flag Community Award for 2014/2015.

The judges’ report will be received later and details of this will be included in the autumn newsletter which you should receive at the end of September.

The committee would like to say a very big thank you to all our members: those who regularly support our monthly working sessions; those who help by regularly collecting litter when they walk around; and those whose continued support helps us buy seeds, tools, wood and the other expenses involved in running our group.

We would also like to thank Broxtowe Borough Council for all the help they provide and particularly Chris Riley who has been very heavily involved in the hedgerow and grassland restoration scheme but also in many other aspects of maintaining this area for everyone to enjoy.

The Friends are always looking for extra pairs of hands to help out or to simply support their work, so...
