Due to the heavier than normal rainfall during the 'summer' of 2012, the popular path leading from the outcrop/viewpoint down through the woodland towards Brookside Avenue became seriously eroded and quite difficult to use. To limit further run-off damage and ease access the Friends installed 3 steps in late 2012.

Whilst these certainly helped to reduce further erosion of the sandy soils and soft bedrock, several users reported having difficulty using the path due to the height of the new steps. In order to redress this, the Friends recently installed five additional steps (between 3 and 17 May 2013), making a total of eight.

From comments received during the work, and those expressed since, the extra steps have been greatly appreciated by site users and have made this popular path much easier to use.

Hopefully this has solved the problem(s) but the situation will monitored over the coming months.
